Q.2. Why was Sulekha called Bholi, the simpleton?

 Ans. The original name of Bholi was Sulekha. When she was ten months old, some part of her brain was damaged. She remained a backward 'child and came to be known as Bholi, the simpleton.

 ਜਵਾਬ. ਭੋਲੀ ਦਾ ਅਸਲੀ ਨਾਂ ਸੁਲੇਖਾ ਸੀ। ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਦਸ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੀ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸਦੇ ਦਿਮਾਗ ਦਾ ਕੁਝ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਖਰਾਬ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਇੱਕ ਪਛੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਬੱਚੀ ਰਹੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਭੋਲੀ, ਸਧਾਰਨ ਔਰਤ ਵਜੋਂ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਣ ਲੱਗਾ।

Ans. Bholi has neither good looks nor intelligence. It was difficult to find a bridegroom for her. So Ram was worried about Bholi.

Q.7. Why did the Tehsildar want Ram Lal to send his daughters to the school?

Ans. Ram Lal was a government official. He was a representative of the government in the village. In order to set an example for the villagers, the Tehsildar wanted to send his daughters to school.

Answer:

Ans1 Bholi is the main character of the story ‘Bholi’. It is written by K.A. Abbas. Her real name was Sulekha. She had three brothers and three sisters. All her brothers and sisters were healthy and strong. But she was not. When she was ten months old she had fallen of the cot. As a result some part of her brain was damaged. So she remained a backward child. Everyone called her Bholi, the simpleton. At the age of two, she had an attack of small-pox. Her body got disfigured by pock marks. She stammered while speaking. So she was not sent to school. But when she was sent to school, her life totally changed. Her teacher was very kind. She inspired her and gave her confidence. She made her speak without stammer.

All her brothers and sisters were healthy and strong. But Bholi was not. She was not beautiful and had pock marks on her face. So her father was worried about her marriage. He thought that no one would agree to marry her.

 ਭੋਲੀ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਭਰਾ ਅਤੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਭੈਣਾਂ ਸਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ। ਰਾਧਾ ਵਿਆਹੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ। ਹੁਣ ਰਾਮਲਾਲ ਚੰਪਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੰਗਲਾ ਦੇ ਵਿਆਹ ਬਾਰੇ ਸੋਚਦਾ ਸੀ। ਉਸਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਭਰਾ ਅਤੇ ਭੈਣਾਂ ਸਿਹਤਮੰਦ ਅਤੇ ਤਾਕਤਵਰ ਸਨ। ਪਰ ਭੋਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੇ ਚਿਹਰੇ 'ਤੇ ਪੋਕ ਦੇ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਸਨ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਉਸਦੇ ਵਿਆਹ ਬਾਰੇ ਚਿੰਤਤ ਸਨ। ਉਸਨੇ ਸੋਚਿਆ ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਆਹ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਰਾਜ਼ੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।

When teacher asked her name, she stammered. She began to weep. But the teacher was very kind. She inspired her and gave her confidence. She made her speak without stammer. Her teacher taught her to face life boldly. Now Bholi learned to fight against social evils. At the time of her marriage, she refused to marry Bishamber because he was greedy and in human. In this way Bholi’s teacher shaped her life.

ਭੋਲੀ ਦੀ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾ ਉਸਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਨਿਭਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਭੋਲੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ ਸਕੂਲ ਗਈ। ਉਸਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਉਮਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕੁੜੀਆਂ ਵੇਖੀਆਂ। ਉਹ ਉਲਝਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੀ। ਜਦੋਂ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾ ਨੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਹੜਬੜਾਈ। ਉਹ ਰੋਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਈ। ਪਰ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਦਿਆਲੂ ਸੀ। ਉਸਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਦਿਵਾਇਆ। ਉਸਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਹੜਬੜਾਏ ਬੋਲਣ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਸਦੀ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਦਲੇਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਹਮਣਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਸਿਖਾਇਆ। ਹੁਣ ਭੋਲੀ ਨੇ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਬੁਰਾਈਆਂ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਲੜਨਾ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ। ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਆਹ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ, ਉਸਨੇ ਬਿਸ਼ੰਬਰ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਆਹ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਲਾਲਚੀ ਅਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭੋਲੀ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਨੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਕਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

 

Bishamber's Character sketch 

Ans4 Bishamber was a rich grocer. He was about ffy years old. He walked with a limp (lMgVw). He had children from his earlier wife also. He gave a marriage proposal for Bholi. At the time of marriage, when he saw Bholi’s face was full of pock marks. He was very greedy. At first, he refused to marry Bholi. He agreed on the condition that he would marry her only when Ramlal would give him five thousand rupees. But Bholi taught him a lesson. She refused to marry him and he had to go back.

 

 ਬਿਸ਼ੰਬਰ ਇੱਕ ਅਮੀਰ ਕਰਿਆਨੇ ਦਾ ਵਪਾਰੀ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਲਗਭਗ ਪੰਜ ਸਾਲ ਦਾ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਲੰਗੜਾ ਕੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਸੀ)। ਉਸਦੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਬੱਚੇ ਸਨ। ਉਸਨੇ ਭੋਲੀ ਲਈ ਵਿਆਹ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਸਤਾਵ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਵਿਆਹ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ, ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸਨੇ ਭੋਲੀ ਦਾ ਚਿਹਰਾ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਸਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਸਨ। ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਲਾਲਚੀ ਸੀ। ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਸਨੇ ਭੋਲੀ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਆਹ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਹ ਇਸ ਸ਼ਰਤ 'ਤੇ ਸਹਿਮਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਆਹ ਉਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਕਰੇਗਾ ਜਦੋਂ ਰਾਮਲਾਲ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਪੰਜ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ। ਪਰ ਭੋਲੀ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਸਬਕ ਸਿਖਾਇਆ। ਉਸਨੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਆਹ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਵਾਪਸ ਜਾਣਾ ਪਿਆ।

Bholi's real name was Sulekha. She had fallen off the cot in her childhood. Her head got injured. She was a simpleton. At the age of 2, she had an attack of small pox. She became ugly. She could not speak till she was 5. Children made fun of her stammering. Bholi was admitted to a village school. Bholi’s teacher was a kind lady. She helped her in learning. Bholi got interested in studies. She refused to marry a greedy and old man, Bishambhar. She decided to teach in the same school.

 17) ਭੋਲੀ ਨੇ ਬਿਸ਼ੰਬਰ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਆਹ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। 18) ਉਸਨੇ ਉਸੇ ਸਕੂਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਕੂਲ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾ ਬਣਨ ਦਾ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਸਨੇ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ।
