Tense Chart for all classes



3 Tenses  { 3 Tenses × 4 Formula= 12 } in English with Examples


1. Simple Present Tense/ Present Indefinite Tense  ( ਦਾ ਹੈ ,ਦੀ ਹੈ ,ਦੇ ਹਨ ,ਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਆਦਿ ਪਹਿਚਾਣ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਵਾਕ ਦੀਆਂ)

Note :- e/es with the subject:- he ,she,it, name, singular , and in negative place does with these subjects ( He,She,It ,Name , Singular) 


Do not with :- I ,we, you,they , plural 




Rule: 1.  Subject + Verb (1st form) + e/es + Object :-          positive 


Simple Present Tense Examples:


We live in London. ਅਸੀ ਲੰਡਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ।

He reads comic books.

She goes to yoga class.

I come here every day.

You work at the hospital.

They watch a movie on Sunday.

Mona sings at the club.


2. Subject+ does not/ do not + verb 1st form + object  :-       Negative 


We  do not live in London.  ਅਸੀ ਲੰਡਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ 

He  does not read comic books.

She does not go to yoga class.

I do not come here every day.

You  do not work at the hospital.

They  do not watch a movie on Sunday.

Mona does not  sing at the club.



3. Does/ Do + Subject + verb ( 1st form ) + object+ ?       :-     interrogative 

Do we live in London? ਕੀ ਅਸੀਂ ਲੰਡਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ?

Does he read comic books ? 

Do I  come here every day?

Does Monu sing at the club ?





4. Does/ Do + Subject+ not + verb ( 1st form) + object + ?  :-    interrogative with negative 

Do we not  live in London?  ਕੀ ਅਸੀਂ ਲੰਡਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ? 

Does he not  read comic books ? 

Do I  not come here every day?

Does Monu  not sing at the club ?


5. W.H. + Does/ Do + Subject+ verb ( 1st form ) + object + ?     Interrogative with W.H. words 


Why do we  live in London?  ਅਸੀ ਲੰਡਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਉ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ? 

 Why does he read comic books ? 

Why  do I come here every day?

When does Monu sing at the club ?





2. Present Continuous Tense


Rule: Subject + is/are/am + Verb (ing) + Object

Present Continuous Tense Examples:

We are going to London.

He is reading a book.

She is going to a yoga class.

I am working.

You are playing.

They are watching a movie.

Mona is singing a song.


Rule: 1. Subject + is / am / are + Verb (1st form) + ing  + Object :- positive


 Present continuous Tense Examples:

We are  living  in London. ਅਸੀ ਲੰਡਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ 

He  is reading  comic books.

She is  going to yoga class.

I am coming  here every day.

You  are working  at the hospital.

They  are watching  a movie on Sunday.

Mona is  singing at the club.


2. Subject+ is / am / are + not + verb 1st form + ing +  object :- Negative 


We are not   living in London. 

He is  not reading comic books.

She is  not going to yoga class.

I am  not coming here every day.

You are not  working at the hospital.

They are not  watching a movie on Sunday.

Mona is not   singing  at the club.


Is  / am / are  + Subject + verb ( 1st form ) + ing + object+ ? :- interrogative 

Are we living in London? 

Is he reading comic books ? 

Am I coming here every day?

Is Monu singing at the club ?


4. Is/Are/ Am  + Subject+ not + verb ( 1st form)+ ing  + object + ? :- interrogative with negative

Are we not  living in London? 

Is he  not reading comic books ? 

Am I  not coming here every day?

Is Monu not  singing at the club ?


5. W.H. + Does/ Do + Subject+ verb ( 1st form ) + object + ? Interrogative with W.H. words 

Why are we living in London? 

 Why is he reading comic books ? 

Why  am I coming here every day ?

When is  Monu singing at the club ?






3. Present Perfect Tense


Rule: Subject + has/have + Verb (3rd form) + Object


Present Perfect Tense Examples:


We have been to London.

He has read comic books.

She has done yoga.

I have worked here.

You have played well.

They have watched these movies.

Mona has sung a song.


Subject + have/has + not + past participle (V3) + + object :-           negative 

We haven't been to London.

He has not  read comic books.

She has not  done yoga.

I have  not worked here.

You have not  played well.

They have  not watched these movies.

Mona has not  sung a song.


Interrogative (Question):

Have/has + subject + past participle (V3) + object+ ? 

Have we been to London. ?

Has he read comic books.?

Has  she done yoga.?

Have I  worked here.?

Have you played well.?

Have they watched these movies.?

 Has Mona sung a song.?


Interrogative (Question):+ negative 

Have/has + subject+ not  + past participle (V3) + object+ ? 

Have we not  been to London. ?

Has he not  read comic books.?

Has she not done yoga.?

Have I not  worked here.?

Have you not  played well.?

Have they not watched these movies.?

Interrogative (Question):+ with W. H. Words

W .H. Have / Has  + subject+ not + past participle (V3) + object+ ? 

Where have we  been to London. ?

Why has he  read comic books.?

Why has  she  done yoga.?

4. Present Perfect Continuous Tense


Rule: Subject + has/have + been + Verb (ing) + Object + since / for + point of time / period of time


Present Perfect Continuous Tense Examples:


We have been visiting London.

He has been reading comic books.

She has been doing yoga.

I have been working here.

You have been playing all day.

They have been watching movies.

Mona has been singing a song.





5. Simple Past Tense


Rule: Subject + Verb (2nd form) + Object


Simple Past Tense Examples:

We lived in London.

He read comic books.

She went to yoga class.

I came here yesterday.

You worked at the hospital.

They watched a movie last Sunday.

Mona sang a song.


6. Past Continuous Tense

Rule: Subject + was/were + Verb (ing) + Object

Past Continuous Tense Examples:

We were going to London.

He was reading a book.

She was going to yoga class.

I was working.

You were playing.

They were watching a movie.1

Mona was singing a song.


7. Past Perfect Tense


Rule: Subject + had + Verb (3rd form) + Object

Past Perfect Tense Examples:


We had gone to London.

He had read comic books.

She had done yoga.

I had worked here.

You had worked at the hospital.

They had watched these movies.

Mona had sung a song.


8. Past Perfect Continuous Tense


Rule: Subject + had + been + Verb (ing) + Object + since / for +  point of time / period of time


Past Perfect Continuous Tense Examples:


We had been visiting London.

He had been reading comic books.

She had been doing yoga.

I had been working here.

You had been playing all day.

They had been watching movies.

Mona had been singing a song.





9. Simple Future Tense


Rule: Subject + will/shall + Verb (1st form) + Object


Simple Future Tense Examples:


We shall live in London.

He will read comic books.

She will go to a yoga class.

I shall come here every day.

You will work at the hospital.

They will watch a movie on Sunday.

Mona will sing a song.


10. Future Continuous Tense


Rule: Subject + will/shall + be + Verb (ing) + Object


Future Continuous Tense Examples:


We shall be going to London.

He will be reading a book.

She will be going to yoga class.

I shall be working.

You will be playing.

They will be watching a movie.

Mona will be singing a song.




11. Future Perfect Tense

Rule: Subject + will/shall + have + Verb (3rd form) + Object

Future Perfect Tense Examples:

We shall have left London.

He will have read comic books.

She will have done yoga.

I will have worked here.

You will have done your work.

They will have watched a movie.

Mona will have sung a song.

12. Future Perfect Continuous Tense

Rule: Subject + will/shall + have + been + Verb (ing) + Object + since / for + point of time / period of time

Future Perfect Continuous Tense Examples:

We shall have been going to London.

He will have been reading comic books.

She will have been doing yoga.

I shall have been working.

You will have been playing.

They will have been watching movies.

Mona will have been singing a song.
